Erkan Ates

Erkan Ates is a Canadian lawyer based in Ottawa with over a decade of experience across immigration, tax, and pensions law. He is the founder and principal of EA Law, a practice dedicated to serving individuals, families, and professionals with personalized legal services that balance technical precision with practical insight.

In addition to his private practice, Erkan serves as a Legal Policy Advisor at the Department of National Defence, where he leads on complex pensions law and regulatory reform. He previously held senior legal and policy roles at the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat, contributing to modernization of federal pension legislation and the development of public sector regulatory frameworks. His early legal career included positions National Defence and the Nordic Investment Bank in Finland.

Erkan earned his Juris Doctor ( from the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law and holds a Graduate Certificate in Pension Law from Osgoode Hall Law School. He  is a member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario. Erkan was appointed an Arkansas Traveller by the Governor of Arkansas in recognition of his international contributions.

Erkan currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Immigration Lawyers Association, where he contributes to national policy advocacy and access to justice initiatives for newcomers to Canada.
